18th-century house near Cabrieres d’Avignon with 4 bedrooms and one part still to restore
The house has been elegantly designed with vaulted rooms and archways on the ground floor, a courtyard garden, and views over vineyards to the Luberon mountain. The setting is a quiet hamlet close to villages and amenities.
Currently there are 4 bedrooms and an artist’s studio, and one part of the house over two floors is still to be renovated, and would yield at least three more rooms.
The ground floor consists of living room, dining room and kitchen, running into one another through archways, each with the original vaulted ceilings and stone walls. This gives the house lots of character, and there are also large openings to bring in plenty of light.
Kitchen: opening out to courtyard and shaded terrace, with working fireplace.
Dining room: between kitchen and living room with plenty of light.
Living room: cosy room with chimney flue intact behind the plaster.
There are four bedrooms, with one on the ground floor and three upstairs, and three bathrooms.
Master bedroom: Dual aspect room with view to the Luberon mountain, original beams and floor tiles. There is a dressing room with built-in wardrobes, and an en suite bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, basin and WC.
Bathroom 2: With shower, basin and WC.
Bedroom 3: Spacious room with original beams, ideal as a kids’ room with multiple beds.
Bedroom 4: Large ground floor room with original beams, opening onto the courtyard garden. The en suite bathroom has bath, walk-in shower, doubles basin and WC.
Three sides of the house are set around the inner courtyard, and to the front facing south is the lawn with pool. The garden is walled and when you close the gate there is a feel of being securely cocooned.
Outside the kitchen the pergola shades the outdoor dining spot, and in front of this the pool measures 7m x 7m (23ft square) and is tiled.
The garden is beautifully looked after and planted with many mature roses.
There is shaded parking for several cars in the old barn.
The house is in a country setting close to the villages of Coustellet and Cabrieres d’Avignon.
Coustellet is the crossroads of the Luberon, with many shops and restaurants, bank, supermarket and other amenities. It is also the venue for the exceptional Sunday morning farmers’ market. Coustellet has both a primary school and a secondary school.
Cabrieres is quieter and is a more typically charming Luberon village. It has a bakery, grocery and restaurant, as well as a primary school.
The famed hill-top villages of the Luberon – Menerbes, Bonnieux, Gordes, Roussillon, etc. – are all close by.
